I learned early that movement was my best heartfelt expression. When words failed to communicate everything I wanted to say, my body was my best voice. Lucky then for me, I was a dancer from the time I was 2 years old.

Through dance and the study of movement, I started learning to be inspired by this human experience. During my youth, to live was to dance. I took this concept so seriously I graduated from a performing arts high school and earned a BFA at The Ohio State University majoring in dance. While I continue to resonate with that expression, now, as an adult, as a mother and still as a dancer, yoga has become the means to live that dance.

Studying yoga from the early age of 19, the movement, concepts, teachings, teachers, all have evolved around me and within me. Yoga is much too small a word to encompass what it means to do and teach this beautiful art and study. It is the heartfelt expression of God, another word too small to encompass the individual meaning it holds for us all.

By becoming a yoga instructor, I became more of a dedicated student of yoga, movement, the body, mind, and the universe within and without. Teaching is the greatest gift of yoga. The experience of observing a room full of energized dedicated spirits can, and often does, bring me to tears. I am thankful for much and as every day unfolds I have more to appreciate. Inspiration for classes is derived from yogis, teachings in the Tantric texts, the environment, dance, poetry, love, sadness.

My experience of Yoga now has the greatest pleasure of also including the grace of childbirth. Over the past 5 years I have studied among great women to become a doula and childbirth educator. I spend many hours learning about couples and their wishes to bring life into the world. I then stand beside them as this miracle comes to be. The splendor in the power of childbirth is Yoga at its most awe inspiring.

Yoga is how you can view everything this life has to offer. Study it and you can and will appreciate this idea. This Yoga is much more than simply on the mat. It is alive and, therefore, is present at all times. But to move on the mat or during the birth of a child is to live fully in this human body. To give it thanks giving. To celebrate this human existence. Yoga helps one to experience its magnificence! Jai Hanuman!
